Keeping Fit For Life

In order to keep fit, the first step is knowing what being unfit looks and feels like and to have the desire to get fit and the to practice keeping fit. A fit person practices staying fit by getting enough exercise, eating nutritious foods and by living a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise allows our bodies to have fewer aches and pains, it increases your energy level, and it can help to reduce your stress level. Exercise also keeps your organs, like your heart strong and healthy. Exercising burns off unnecessary fat on your body and in so doing, it helps maintain your proper weight. Did you know that exercise could help to increase your brain activity?

Another benefit to exercising is that if you choose to do exercising in groups like at a gym or as part of a sports team you will also enjoy positive social interaction, which helps your mental and emotional health.

Nutritious eating helps your body to be fit because you are eating the right foods needed for healthy organs, for strong bones and teeth, and so that body has what it needs on a cellular level for growth and repair.

Healthy eating includes lots of starchy foods including potatoes, bread, rice and pasta. Vegetables are a must for a healthy body to the tune of five portion sizes of fruits and vegetables a day. It is important to eat oily fish like salmon or mackerel at least twice a week. Your body also needs dairy products but to keep them as a healthy food source they should be non-fat or low-fat milk and milk products. Healthy eating also includes decreasing to minimum fatty and sugary foods. Eat only moderate amounts of red meat and substituting red meat with chicken, fish or lean meats. Reduce your intake of salty snack foods and preserved meats. Avoid stock cubes or packet soups due to sodium content. You can eat sweets but keep them to a minimum.

Having a healthy lifestyle keep your body fit. If you smoke, drink and do dangerous sexual activity you are exposing your body to a higher risk for disease. Choosing instead to not smoke, avoid alcoholic beverages or to drink them at a minimum and to avoid risky sexual activity is to choose to help preserve your health and longevity.

People who are fit take the time everyday to stay physically fit by exercising such as walking, or by joining an aerobics class, going swimming or by joining a sports team. Lots of communities have exercise classes that you can join to help you stay fit.

Keeping Fit and Losing Weight By Staying Motivated

A common time for people to resolve to lose weight is on New Year’s Day. Shortly after the New Year many if not all of those who resolve to lose weight lose their motivation to do so. Approximately 65% of American adults are overweight so there are lots of people who desire to lose weight. Losing weight generally involves making lifestyle changes in order to do so. Most dieters also need to learn how to eat in a healthy way. In order to make these lifestyle and eating changes it is important to stay motivated in your quest to lose weight because the newness of all the changes will soon wear off. Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated.

Staying healthy while losing weight needs to involve a certain amount of making justifications such as if you want a piece of candy or cake you need to make an adjustment to the other meals or snacks during your day. If your total caloric intake at the end of the day is what it should be than your exchange that you did in order to justify that piece of candy or cake worked. Justify by substitution or by eating smaller portions. Eating more calories than what your body needs or burns results in weight gain. The opposite is true if you don’t eat more food than your body requires than you don’t gain weight. If you burn more calories than you take in you lose weight.

Many studies have indicated that most people will eat what they are served whether or not they are still hungry. When fast food restaurants went to serving larger portions, especially Americans began eating more calories than they needed and we saw an increase in the number of individuals who were overweight. Keeping your serving sizes (portions) in check is one huge improvement most dieters can make that will yield fast results if they had previously been overeating.

Examine your eating and exercise habits and make note of areas that need improvements. Don’t be afraid to ask for professional help if need be. Have a written goal of every improvement you wish to make and then brainstorm ways to achieve those improvements.

Believe that you can be fit by losing weight. When you believe in yourself and your ability to control your weight you can do anything you set your mind to do. Enlist the help of friends or family. Develop a positive attitude and believe that you will achieve your weight loss goals.

Celebrate every small step you achieve. Every weight loss step you take is an achievement to celebrate. Keep a photo of what you looked like before starting your weight loss journey and then take another picture several months later do you see differences? Celebrate those differences. Are you in a smaller dress or pant size? Pat yourself on your back! These celebrations will motivate you on to your next higher goal.

Staying Fit In A Busy World

Many of us juggle more than one job or have small children to care for at home and our lives are so hectic that it can be difficult to find the time to stay fit. If you would like to stay fit but just can’t seem to find the time here are some simple steps that may make a fitness goal seem more reachable if you have a busy lifestyle.

One simple step to take is playing with the kids or if you have none of your own, take some time to play with the neighborhood kids in a simple game of hoops or throwing a baseball or football around in the yard. Shooting baskets, biking up and down the street, or throwing a ball for 30 minutes can give your body the needed exercise and gets you out into the fresh air for a while. Even if you can’t do 30 minutes, whatever time you can spend, even 5 or 10 minutes will still do your body good.

Another good fitness step involves taking a walk after supper. Take your dog, kids or the entire family with you and make it a fun time of sharing. If you want to make your walk a little more intensive try doing some running in place, jumping jacks or lunges every so often. If you have really small children give them a ride in a jogging stroller.

Don’t forget the most obvious step and that is to do some housework such as sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming. These chores can burn some serious calories!

Take the stairs the next time you are tempted to take an elevator ride. Climbing stairs is good for your leg muscles and your heart.

If you take the bus home from work, try getting off several stops earlier and walk the rest of the way home.

If you are watching TV, instead of just sitting there, do some sit-ups, or push-ups, yoga or Pilates while you watch your movie or TV program.

If you have a job where you sit most of the day, make sure that during your breaks you get outside and go for a brisk, short walk.

Start your day by putting on your favorite music and do a little dancing to get your blood circulating. If you have an aerobics routine do that too.

If you find yourself on the phone and on hold, make good use of the time by doing some stretching or light yoga. You can also do this while in the kitchen waiting for something to boil on the stove

There are a lot of outdoor activities that you can do in the garden or yard work. Pull some weeds, or prune dead trigs off bushes. Go ahead and wash your car, or mow the lawn. Even doing something like reorganizing a close can be a form of exercise.

Simple Steps To A Fit Body

Don’t let anyone tell you that getting a fit body is easy or difficult. Having a fit body is something that is done with conscious effort. Having a fit body requires eating healthy foods, getting exercise and leading a healthy life which excludes taking unhealthy risks such as smoking or drinking alcohol excessively. There are some simple steps that you can begin today towards having a healthier body. A fit body is one that is a proper weight for height, has the nutrition daily that is required for normal body function and a body that gets adequate amounts of water and sleep.

There are two things that we can do to help our bodies replenish and restore itself and that is to get adequate amounts of sleep and to feed our bodies proper nutrition. Our bodies do most of the healing and repairing work as well as any regulartory tasks while we sleep. If we deprive our bodies of the sleep it needs than our bodies go without being repaired, restored or regulated properly. Not getting enough sleep and not eating nutritious foods can lead to certain diseases.

If we know that our diet is lacking in certain nutrients we can talk to a doctor or a nutritionist about taking supplements. Under medical professional guidance we can select the proper vitamin or mineral supplements that we are lacking in our diets so that taking supplements will help us to get fit.

If we wish to improve our diet we can do so by eating more fresh vegetables and fruits, and by avoiding red meat, sugars, salts and caffeine. Avoid fatty foods, sugary foods and junk or processed foods to have a healthier body. It is also important not to skip breakfast as our bodies have been fasting all night as we slept and need fuel to perform all the tasks we ask our bodies to do throughout the morning. Eating breakfast also jump-starts our metabolism which aids weight loss efforts.

In order to be fit our bodies need exercise. Exercise aids in metabolism, in keeping our bodily functions humming along and in strengthening our muscles including our heart muscle.

Stress can do a body in and can lead to weight gain and disease so do all you can to not stress over little stuff and to learn relaxation techniques. Stress can take the same toll on our bodies that toxins do, so try all you can to manage the stress that is occurs in all of our lives.

You can help your body to stay fit by avoiding germs. One way to avoid germs is to not share eating utensils or drinking glasses/cups. Another good way to avoid viruses and bacteria is to wash your hands in warm water and a good antibacterial soap.

Help your body to stay fit by avoiding those things that put our bodies at risk for disease such as smoking and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Protect yourself form Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and avoid recreational/illegal drugs. Treat your body with respect and don’t abuse or neglect it.

If you are overweight do all you can to lose weight and be at a proper weight for your height. Your doctor can advice you on what your proper weight should be and diet and exercise programs that can help you achieve your ideal weight.

Another way to stay fit is to visit your doctor for annual check-ups. When diseases are caught early they are usually easier to manage and heal from. It is usually more costly once a problem that has gone undetected grows into a major health concern.

The Formula for Keeping Fit

Do you know what the formula for keeping fit is? The formula is a healthy diet plus proper exercise equals a fit body. Did you know that the types of food you chose to eat could make a difference in whether or not you are fit?

If you fill up on foods that contain carbohydrates and proteins your body will have the fuel it needs to function and repair tissue. If you eat a lot of sugary and fatty foods your body will break down muscle in order to have what it needs. Most people, who are dieting, reduce the amount of food they eat in an effort to lose weight and what they actually do is to reduce the amount of healthy nutrients that they take into their body and when the body doesn’t have what it needs it can’t be fit. You may lose weight by not eating enough food but it is not fat that you lose it is muscle and when you lose muscle you lower your metabolism and when you lower your metabolism guess what? When you lower your metabolism you gain weight! So, if you diet by eating less food than you will lower your metabolism and gain weight. The key to staying fit while you are trying to lose weight is to eat a healthy diet while eating multiple meals each day (5 or 6). Eat more frequent smaller meals and you will really rev up your metabolism. When your metabolism gets revved up you lose weight.

Exercise serves many purposes for staying fit including building muscle, strengthening muscle, losing weight, and building endurance. When our body is of the proper weight, our muscles are strengthened and we have the proper fuel our body’s need we are fit. A good diet without exercise will not make us fit. Exercising without controlling our eating habits will also not make us fit. We have to have a good combination of good nutrition and proper diet in order to be fit.

If you have a chronic medical condition you can still use the same formula for keeping fit, just modify it according to what your doctor recommends. If you are unsure of how to create a nutritious diet than see your doctor or nutritionist who will be glad to lead you to a model of proper eating.

If you have not been physically active for a while it is a good idea to see your doctor before starting any new exercise program. If you have any chronic health issues it is also a good idea to see your doctor so that you can be advised regarding getting fit and staying fit.
